Vanessa joined Health Sciences University in 2020 as a Sonographer in the School of Radiology. Providing high-quality imaging services to patients whilst facilitating clinical placements for postgraduate students.

Biography

Vanessa Frost graduated from Bournemouth University with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Exercise Science (Sports and Rehabilitation) and on graduating, started work at the Health Sciences University Clinic as the Rehabilitation and Exercise Centre Manager. This post primarily comprised supervising final-year chiropractic students with their patients in a rehabilitation setting, but developed to provide services such as pre-season screening, performance testing, injury prevention and rehabilitation for AFC Bournemouth and the Redbull Formula 1 Racing team pitstop crew.

After referring one of her own patients to Health Sciences University Ultrasound Clinic for an ultrasound scan, Vanessa immediately took an interest in the subject. Subsequently, she completed her MSc in Medical Ultrasound at Bournemouth University/Health Sciences University.

Whilst specialising in musculoskeletal ultrasound, along with teaching at the Health Sciences University School of Radiology, Vanessa gained experience working in a variety of settings including the NHS and privately for a national company in Exeter. Coming from a non-traditional background, Vanessa specialises in musculoskeletal ultrasound and has a unique perspective within the field of diagnostic ultrasound.

Current Activity

Vanessa Frost is a sonographer and clinical placement supervisor for the MSc Medical Ultrasound (Musculoskeletal unit) course in the School of Radiology. This role involves providing high-quality imaging services to patients whilst facilitating clinical placements for postgraduate students. Students come from a variety of professional backgrounds including radiography, physiotherapy, general practice and sports medicine to name a few, and each student requires a different approach to their learning based on their existing knowledge/skill. It is important to balance the learning needs of students with the medical necessity for accurate imaging and reporting for the patient. Vanessa also works part-time for a private company in Exeter near to where she is based in Devon.
