Biography
Grainne Ford has been a registered Dietitian since 2001. She completed her undergraduate BSC in Human Nutrition and Dietetics in Edinburgh at Queen Margaret University. Since that time, she has gained extensive experience across many acute clinical specialities including stoke, diabetes, nutrition support and surgical oncology. Grainne then served as the chief Dietitian at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital before being successful as the dietetic manager for a merged service across University Hospital Dorset. Collaboration and service development are at the heart of everything that Grainne does. Grainne undertook a 12 month fellowship with Health Education England in 2022 to learn more about population health.
Current Activity
Course Lead for MSc Dietetics at HSU.
Areas of Interest
Population health including Health Inequalities. Grainne is enthusiastic about stronger partnerships between our education and health care providers and has extensive experience as a leader in the world of allied health including leading the UHD NHS allied health professionals and healthcare scientists leads groups.
One key outcome was developing a combined strategy to advocate for these professional roles in healthcare. Grainne has strong leadership skills gained through a blend of experience and formal training. Communicating , influencing and working with other managers to develop services. I feel skills in collaboration will be vital in delivering change in this role.

Grainne is passionate about the importance of driving change in hospital catering and food provision for both staff and patients. This was brought to the forefront in her experience of chairing the acute trusts nutrition steering group to influence the role of multi-disciplinary input.

Member of the British Dietetic Association by bringing my AHP background to the table to influence health and care decisions across the system would envisage this opportunity as enabling me to strengthen the visibility of population health in the acute setting and create links and opportunities for future working. Develop more effective models of care across the system to optimise the health and well-being.

Collaborative research with acute healthcare and local education institutes – I’m very enthusiastic in seeking opportunities for new ideas including digital solutions to help us improve the nutritional care we deliver to our patients.
We are investigating how organisational culture influences accountability for nutrition and hydration in hospital patients. This is an exciting and innovative project with our aim being to improve the care processes across multidisciplinary teams. I have supported this student with her writing and poster developments for various public engagements.
