Biography
Dr Hilary Abbey D.Prof.(Ost), DO, MSc, PGDip, PGCAP, PGCert, CQSW, FHEA
Hilary graduated from the British School of Osteopathy (BSO) in 1979 and worked in varied private, NHS and charitable clinical settings before moving into osteopathic education and research. She completed a Professional Doctorate in 2017, developing the format for a cohort study into psychologically informed osteopathic care for patients with persistent pain (the Osteopathy, Mindfulness and Acceptance Programme; OsteoMAP), which was funded for three years by the Department of Health. In 2022, Hilary retired as Head of Research and Knowledge Exchange at the University College of Osteopathy (UCO) but continues to contribute to the profession as a Visiting Professor, and as a part-time as a Research Fellow with the National Council for Osteopathic Research (NCOR) since April 2024. Research interests include interdisciplinary pain management using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, embodiment, and therapeutic relationships.
