Amanda Weaver

Amanda is the Course Lead and Senior Lecturer for Enhanced Clinical Practice which offers post-registration opportunities to support the development of Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) at an enhanced level of practice with specific knowledge and skills in a field of expertise. The course is mapped against the AHP Enhanced Level Practice schema and aligned to the priorities addressed in the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan.

Biography

After growing up in Dorset, studying in Hertfordshire and working in the NHS as an acute/cardiorespiratory physiotherapist for several NHS trusts in London and the home counties Amanda returned to Dorset in 2009 to continue her clinical career. During the last 8 years Amanda has focussed on supporting the education, leadership and research pillar of practice. This has included being the Professional Lead for Physiotherapy, Early Careers Lead, AHP Strategic Workforce Lead and Lead Practice Educator for Therapies. This has led to her passion in supporting AHPs to develop their knowledge and skills in order to provide high quality patient care.

During 2022 to 2024 Amanda was the AHP Workforce Lead for the National AHP Preceptorship and Foundation Support programme at NHS England and led the publication of the HCPC Principles for Preceptorship, NHS England AHP Preceptorship Standards and Framework and accompanying resources.

Amanda has also worked at HSU delivering sessions for the PG Cert Healthcare Education module on Workplace Supervision.

 

Experience, Areas of interest/expertise:

  • 24 years of NHS experience including working as a physiotherapist across acute inpatient care including critical care, medicine, surgery, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation and respiratory outpatients.
  • Interest in developing AHPs across the enhanced level of practice.
  • Subject matter expert in AHP Preceptorship including work for NHS England and commissioned projects for the Society of Radiographers and British and Irish Orthoptic Society
