AECC University College becomes Health Sciences University

HSU portrait

We are delighted to announce that following a lengthy period of consultation and receipt of relevant approvals, AECC University College has changed its name to Health Sciences University (HSU). This represents a significant milestone in our institutional journey as we proudly carry this new prestigious title.

Our mission to create a healthier society through education, research and clinical care is as relevant and pertinent today as it was when we started our journey 59 years ago as the first chiropractic training provider in Europe.

This new name reflects our broadened scope, depth and level of ambition. We currently offer around 30 accredited health sciences courses and apprenticeships across 10 distinct professions and a growing portfolio of accredited CPD and master classes to the registered and unregistered health and care workforce. In addition, we have developed a large suite of clinical services and have a growing multi-professional research environment and expertise.

There will be further diversification of our portfolio following the merger with the University College of Osteopathy from August 2024, and subsequently the launch of a new Health Business School and a range of health professions apprenticeships.

With that clear focus, we have decided to adopt a new name and a new identity which signals our future ambitions.

We are becoming the Health Sciences University, or HSU for short.

Creating a Healthier Society

Never has the need for a specialist university like ours been greater to help educate and train future health and care professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to help individuals, communities and systems to overcome the significant challenges they face.

Our community clinics will continue to promote and enhance local population health and alleviate pressure on healthcare systems to reduce health inequalities and support people to live well for longer.

We will continue to work closely with all our partners across the ICS, regional and nationally, alongside private, voluntary and independent organisations, and public bodies, to ensure that we are providing the training and clinical care required to meet the current and future needs of our populations.

Becoming the Leading Specialist Health Sciences University

We chose this new name because we didn’t want anyone to be in any doubt about who we are and what we stand for. We want to be the leading specialist health sciences university in the UK.

We deliver a wide range of subjects that will make a positive contribution to the health of society, like allied health, sport and exercise, rehabilitation and social science disciplines.

We are driven to deliver educational excellence in all these areas, to provide the next generation of health professionals for our health services, to upskill our current workforce, to improve and advance our world through research, and to improve public health.

We are the Health Sciences University.
