Overview

As suggested by its title, this unit will develop the healthcare practitioners’ skills beyond the use of the National Early Warning Score (NEWS2). Whilst NEWS2 provides standardisation of assessment and the protocol directs action for potential deterioration, it is an aid to clinical judgement and decision making.

The focus of this unit is the development of knowledge and skills to aid interpretation and response to deterioration to supplement NEWS2. The unit is structured around the use of ABCDE assessment tool and aims to develop underpinning knowledge, skills of assessment and clinical reasoning of registered healthcare professionals to enable improved recognition, further assessment and management of adult deterioration.
