Overview
Our BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) with Foundation Year course offers a structured pathway to our undergraduate BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) degree. Based at our Bournemouth campus, this course offers the perfect setting for focused study in a beautiful coastal location.
During the foundation year, you’ll join a multidisciplinary health sciences community, gaining confidence and developing essential academic skills with the support of dedicated teaching staff. This year will set the foundation for your transition into the full BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) course.
In the following years, you’ll become a skilled diagnostic radiographer, using specialised equipment such as X-ray, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, and ultrasound to carry out medical imaging for diagnosis. The course combines classroom theory with hands-on practical learning, both on-campus and through clinical placements at our partner NHS hospitals. You’ll gain vital technical imaging skills and patient care experience, learning to work under pressure and make critical decisions.

Course Details
Upon completing this course, you’ll be fully equipped to work within a multidisciplinary hospital team, from A&E to surgery, with the knowledge and skills required for success in the healthcare field.
By studying with us, you’ll benefit from our exceptional on-campus facilities, including a digital X-ray suite, open upright MRI scanner, ultrasound machines, AI-enabled simulated ward environment, digital Anatomage Table, and physical condition simulation equipment. These resources ensure you’re well-prepared for your clinical placements, where our dedicated clinical placement lead will provide ongoing support throughout your studies.
In addition to our state-of-the-art facilities, you’ll be guided by world-class academic staff who bring both expertise and real-world experience to your learning. Gain practical experience in our teaching clinic, utilise our specialised clinical imaging facilities, and enhance your studies with access to our dedicated prosection facility for a hands-on approach to learning.
What you will learn
Our BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) course provides you with all the training and knowledge you need to become a fully qualified practitioner and you’ll learn a variety of skills that will enable you to shape the future health and wellbeing of both individuals and society. You’ll be taught how to work under pressure and to make decisions under significant time restraints.
This course will teach you to think critically and analytically and will encourage you to become self-aware, reflective and empathetic.
During the BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) course you will also benefit from a high-performance digital X-ray suite, including a direct radiography (DR) room and mock ward to simulate the hospital setting. With on-campus Ultrasound, MRI, X-Ray, and Fluoroscopy you can expected to be well prepared for your first clinical placements with Health Sciences University hospital partners in the NHS.
Together with small group working, practical sessions, and lectures you will be able to take advantage of working on placement at local providers seeing the real world working without the pressures of a busy NHS department.

What grades do I need? 
If you’re applying from the UK or Ireland:
You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above including English language and Maths. Key Skills/Functional Skills Level 2 in Communication and Application of Number can be accepted in place of English and Maths GCSE. For mature or non-traditional applicants consideration will be given to individual circumstances.
Is there anything else that is required?
If you live in the UK, we’ll need a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (Enhanced DBS) check. It’s standard for all UK students and we’ll be there to guide you through the process once you’ve applied.
- 64 UCAS Tariff points
- A-levels: DDE or higher. Your grades can be in any subject, though we don’t consider General Studies.
- BTEC Extended Diploma: Merit
- Access to HE Diploma: 45 credits at level 3 with a merit profile or above. We accept a range of different Access programmes to join us on the MChiro course. Access to Health Sciences, Access to Science, Access to Medicine, Access to Nursing would all be accepted.
- International Baccalaureate: Overall grade of 28 points or higher.
- Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers: BBCCC or above from 5 Higher subjects.
- Irish Leaving Certificate: Minimum of 5 subjects at Higher level, with grades H3, H3, H3, H4, H4 or above.
- T Levels: Merit in any T-Level subject.
We welcome learners from non-traditional backgrounds and will consider individual circumstances where appropriate.
